What We Sacrifice for Beauty (and Love)

A woman who is not loved may preserve her beauty, like a butterfly pinned under glass. Without love the skin remains unworn, for it is still unexposed to the torrid flow of emotions and excitement of spirit love will cause. Yet feeling is lost without the brush of lips to keep it deeply sparked, and though the beauty is maintained like a wax mask, the soul will cower and die away like dead butterfly wings, like a neglected babe crying in the dark.

Vampire Weekend and Tegan and Sara

So it turns out I'm a bit of a live music addict. Which is not great for my bank account. But it's good for the soul :)

Vampire Weekend: 4th of May, 2010 Festival Hall (formerly the Palace ggrrr)
Love Love Loved it, the lead singer sang flawlessly, but with a bit more power and edge than comes across when listening to the record, especially during Blake's <3 (and he's actually very attractive! Suprise win!). Lighting was mad, chandeliers were gorgeous, and the eyes of the Contra girl lighting up like something out of Village of the Damned was creepy but way cool. Spaz dancing carried out by Ruby and Myself, even tho the other moshers were somewhat less enthused (except the adorable dweeb in the yellow tshirt behind us. Love)

Tegan and Sara: 11th of May, 2010, The Forum (<3 My favourite venue in melbourne)
This was my first ever solo gig, and although it was a little lonely in between the acts, I actually really enjoyed being by myself, as i could just immerse myself in the music and dance however I wanted to :). They were both adorable, although i think Sara is my favourite <3 she has quite an obsession with Elisabeth Shue, which I understand (she's quite the 80's babe) which came out in alot of the banter, and the setlist was mad, they played all my favs (Walking with a ghost, the con, back in your head, hell, northshore, the cure, where does the good go, and the list goes on.) I think the rowdiness of the drunk Australian crowd freaked them out a bit, but I found their awkwardness utterly charming, seeing as I too suffer from this. Love Love Love.

Rich Kids Freak Me Out

I Heart Washington. She's amazing, and rocks an 80's leotard something brilliant :)

Little Melbourne

Today I went on adventure and fell into a totally different kind of city, one that smells like old fabric, brewing coffee and parchment, one that is warm and quizzical and a little bit different.
Just me and my camera and my tunes.

New Poetry and Pictures from the Like-Minded Lovelies

I want to be a poetry scout.

Frozen Heart
Kyle Campbell

A solid sheet of ice and sleet
Inches its way across every part of me
every surface frozen still
Hand left open for yours
words will not flow across this tongue
these lips will remain silent
for my heart is not that of a gamblers
he cannot step out on that wire
with no fear of rejection
They yell "it's dangerous"
keep those words as yours
and yours alone.

My brain gleefully listens
The reason a drug
it floods him with serotonin and dopamine
logic is what i should choose
he knows she sees through my bright coat
that fancy tricks will not impress
My hearts thinks of phrases
of a thousand words and rhymes
Silly poems and clever lines
that i will be able to elegantly annunciate
but my tongue will not budge
awaiting your first move
we reach a stalemate

In my sleep
doppelganger actors play out
vivid scenes happiness and love
i wish i was him the hero
the brave soul
with the strength to open his mouth
and unlock his heart
but alas i remain a face in the crowd
while they frolic about upon the stage.

I've got dreams to remember
Like an Otis Redding song
stealing your heart away
with each note that rolls across you ears
Interrupted.
They fall like sand
Through my clenched fists
As i am pulled out of that world
I grasp and grab,
Claw and scratch
For those dreams
So as to keep this smile on my face
But i am awoken in this world
Of lost confidence and social expectation

I yearn to have the guts
to step out in the rain
and call your name
hoping and praying
that my calls will be answered
but for now i remain frozen
a statue in your garden
just to be this close to you
yearning for your fire
for you warmth
for your heat

Fair has nothing to do with it - Excerpt

Someone has filled a place in my heart, and he shouldn't be there. I don't really think it's fair that I am taunted so by the possibility of a happiness I'm not allowed to have. If the universe will not let me have this, then what do I get instead?

I guess fair has got nothing to do with it

I could if I wanted to. I could take it so easily, it would be like plucking the apple from the tree of knowledge and I would feast on it with zeal and I would lay on the soft green Eden grass beneath the boughs and let the snake dance around my bare white legs. I would if I were Eve, if I was brave, but I am neither. My spirit longs always for what it cannot have, and so it is forever exhausted, extinguished by want, not for Eden, but for something more real.
Be brave, little one, says my head to my heart, stand up for your emaciated self –you are skin and bones. Love brings you substance, brings you muscle brings you blood to feast upon like a vampire; I feel like an animal, hunted not hunting, carnivorous but starved. I am constantly poised for battle, and I am scared by how little I am scared. Please, do not turn my weapons on me, I have no guns or claws only the letters to the spell the words that will hurt one or the other.
So, who's it going to be?

Art Attack #2

Ok so instead of being productive I went to the NVG today in order to calm myself down and give my pour neglected creative soul some feeding. I went and saw the Love, Loss and Intimacy Exhibit, which was just lovely, and then me and my friend Kyle (after a detour to get cupcakes and the lucky acquisition of free books :) ) went to the Ian Potter Gallery to see Top Arts. These people make me wish I was in any way artistically talented. Wow.
